Sunshine and Spreadsheets: A Bookkeeper’s Summer

by | Jul 9, 2026 | Accounting, Tax

Summer means different things to different people.

For some, it’s beach vacations, backyard BBQs, and long weekends.

For small business owners? It’s finally slowing down enough to remember they probably should send their bookkeeper those receipts from… February.

We get it. You’re busy running your business. You’re meeting customers, managing employees, fixing equipment, answering emails, and somehow finding time to eat lunch.

Meanwhile, we’re over here playing detective.

“This charge says ‘Square’… but what was it for?”

“Amazon? Again? Was it office supplies… or dog treats?”

“Is ice cream deductible?!”

Summer is actually one of our favorite seasons. The frantic pace of tax season is behind us, and now we get to help businesses get organized before the next busy stretch. We clean up books, reconcile accounts, review financial reports, and gently suggest that maybe – just maybe – there’s a better system than keeping receipts in the truck’s cup holder.

One of our favorite client questions goes something like this:

“I found a stack of receipts in my glove box. Is it too late?”

Never.

We’ve seen receipts rescued from purses, backpacks, kitchen junk drawers, and once… folded neatly inside a fishing license.

Nothing surprises bookkeepers anymore.

People often think bookkeeping is all numbers. The truth is, it’s about helping business owners sleep a little better at night. Clean books mean better decisions, fewer surprises, and less stress when tax season rolls around again.

So, while you’re enjoying summer, keep doing what you do best – running your business.

We’ll be here making sure your books are as balanced as your vacation schedule should be.

Happy Summer!
